Dear readers,
this first post I wrote for the “Walk around with Flok” column is dedicated to him and to everything he has taught me so far.
In my family the presence of a dog had been strongly requested for some time, but for me it was never the right time. Maybe we will move, we are often away, it will always be me who will have to clean up, and what will we do for the holidays? Eventually I gave in and Flok arrived.
Flok is my first dog and is the heart of the family, loved by everyone. A Golden Retriever who loves napping on all the beds in the house and who is now the legitimate owner of a portion of the sofa, in front of the TV. I still remember the first period with him. As much as I already loved him, it wasn't easy. I was not practical and the idea of going out in any weather and at unusual times for me was sometimes a huge effort. As the months went by, however, things changed and Flok began to teach me a new way of dealing with my daily life. I learned to be outside in any weather: cold, hot, rain, wind, snow. Nothing happens if my hair style gets damaged or if I went out without wearing makeup. I have learned to stop time the moment I arrive in a meadow or in a wood. I began to appreciate nature in a different way, to observe the colors of the passing seasons, to focus more on myself. I happened to do everything possible to go home early to take him out, because maybe during a gloomy day a ray of sunshine suddenly came out. When the rain catches us and we go home wet, I don't think about how long it will take me to dry it, it doesn't matter. What I remember are only the moments we spent together: his runs, the way he waits for me if I stay back on the trail, the woods he proudly brings home. If after a bad day I come back tired and nervous, he is behind the door waiting for me, wagging his tail with his soft toys. In the evening, when he hears noise in the stove, he is the first to arrive in the kitchen; he lies down beside me hoping that he will drop me a few pieces of bread or cheese, which of course always happens. After dinner, however, he is the last to get up from under the table and his innocent licks that brush everything away are a great compliment for the cook. Flok changed my life and I will be eternally grateful to him. This space is dedicated to him and our past and future adventures. Welcome!
TEA TIME!
TEA TIME! I usually recommend accompanying the reading with tea, but for this post I suggest a good Harrod's hot chocolate with marshmallows: it would certainly be Flok's favorite drink, if only he could eat sweets!
